The Cerceje, typical of Scanno, have apotropaic value and for this reason they were worn by all women. They were part of the arsenal of seduction, and drove away spirits. They are still in use and decorated with various symbols: the rooster (rebirth), the dove (purity), the ear of wheat (fertility); and in the centre there is a mask that has a further protective role. The Cerceglie are formed by two perforated and coupled sheets, in gold or silver, embellished with eye catching pendants, stones or shaped nails that clink.
